A strong patent portfolio can be a tremendous asset to your business. Not only do patents prevent others from using your patented invention, they may also provide income opportunities through licensing and infringement actions. We can assist your business in setting up and implementing a patent program to grow and strengthen your patent portfolio. Our representation includes advising the business on legal issues concerning patents and other forms of intellectual property and prosecuting patent applications before the Patent and Trademark Office. Once your business begins developing a portfolio of patents, we can further assist you in enforcement of your patent rights and/or licensing of those rights to others. We can also advise you regarding your competitors’ patents and how to avoid infringement.

Our approach to estate planning involves a careful review of your present status and plans for the future. We take the time to meet with our clients individually to assess their needs and custom design an estate plan to address those needs. Our most common estate plan type is the basic estate plan package, which includes a last will and testament, a living will or a life prolonging procedures declaration, a durable power of attorney, and an appointment of healthcare representative. In addition, with an eye on minimizing the consequences of death taxes, we can design trusts and charitable giving plans to meet your specific situation.

Our attorneys are also experienced in the complex area of administering the probate of your deceased loved one’s estate in court. We provide legal guidance to the executor of the decedent’s estate in opening of the estate, qualifying the personal representative, preparing and filing the inventory, paying claims, collecting assets, preparing and filing non-extraordinary petitions, preparing and filing the Inheritance Tax Schedule, obtaining the court order thereon and paying the taxes, preparing and filing the Final Report, obtaining orders approving same, distributing assets, obtaining discharge of the personal representative, and preparing and serving all notices on interested parties and readily ascertainable creditors throughout the proceedings.
Mediation, a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), aims to assist two (or more) litigants in reaching an agreement. The parties themselves determine the conditions of any settlements reached— rather than accepting something imposed by the Court. Many courts now require parties to submit their disputes to mediation before proceeding to trial in civil and domestic relations matters.

Charles Martin is certified by the State of Indiana to act as a mediator in both civil and domestic relations/family law matters. Charles utilizes his skills as an impartial mediator to open and/or improve
dialogue between litigants, aiming to help the parties reach an agreement.
